A real beauty. Check those harnesses have been replaced and go for it...you'll not regret the topless rides to Neyland Stadium :)

Great cars. I love mine. If it has original wiring, it is or will go bad. If its been replaced, your golden. If not, you'll end up doing it. Just be prepared!

Are there easy tell tale sign of the wire harness being original or replaced?
I haven't been to look at the car, I'm afraid of what I'll do after driving it!
Search using Google for biodegradable Mercedes wiring harness (https://www.google.com/#q=biodegradable+mercedes-benz+wiring+harnesses) and you'll see what a faulty one looks like. Several BenzWorld threads have covered this issue, one recently by a Moderator (RedLiner) on his SL320 of a similar vintage.

Many have been replaced already as this is a widely known problem so you should ask the seller. I think Tracy will confirm the biggest issue is the internal Throttle Body wiring which is obscured from view...you have to take apart the TB to see. If that's not done you can have big $$ repairs if it fails in a certain way.

The only way to tell if the wiring harness has been replaced is to peel back some of the insulation and checking it visually. If it is brittle and crumbling you will know it has yet to be changed and will have to be done sometime in the future. From my understading the main harness isn't too bad to replace and iirc still can be found for purchase the throttle body harnesses will not be as easy as they have to be redone by yourself or an auto electrician.

If you are serious about purchasing the car I would go ahead and test drive it and see if it is the car for you. If it is have a pre-purchase inspection done at a MB dealer or a qualified independent shop owner.

Ah yes....bringing back memories

KevCarver; I haven't been to look at the car said:
& so you'll probably do it, which may not be a bad thing. :eek

I stopped going to car shows over 20 years ago. I'm talking about the huge ones the manufactures put on that are in the convention centers.
I will not even get close to them :grin

The last 2 shows I went to (both on a Sunday & 6 years apart) the VERY NEXT DAY I went into the dealership & ordered the cars (Pontiac GP & a Mazda RX-7) I saw at the show.

No regrets buying the 2 cars but I learned a little bit about myself from those 2 experiences :angel

Just remember....A man has got to know his limitations! :devil
