I went to a car show last Sunday. It turned out the emcee was running for mayor of Key West! He had little magnetic campaign signs, letter-size. I used it to determine that my hood was, indeed, aluminum. However my trunk was not -- the magnet stuck.

I thought these had aluminum trunks, too. After I clay'ed the finish last month I could tell the trunk had been repainted. Now I wonder, was it replaced?

The aluminIum body panels were intorduced for the 450SLC 5.0, to lighten it for rallye use. Now, once the introduced these panels I they used the aluminium bonnets on the 380SL/C, 500SL/C, 420SL and 560SL, but not the bootlid.

EPC states 380SL rear lid: 1077501875 and states STEEL
EPC also states 560SL rear lid: 1077502275 and also STEEL

According to EPC, only the 026 cars had the aluminium boot-lid. Part number: 1077501075
