I was surprised today to discover my hood and trunk lid are not magnetic, and thus are not steel. I suppose they are made of aluminum? (2007 E320 Bluetec)

I will try not to. A deer lept out in front of me today on a back road though, no kidding. What are the odds? Probably missed him by about 30 ft. I felt very lucky. I had glanced down at my instrument panel for an instant, looked up, and there he was, bolting as fast as he could from right to left.
I really like the idea of using aluminum though to save weight where possible, plus no rust from stone chips.
Mercedes also did this on old 126 300SDs. I had an 84 that had an aluminum trunk and hood. Oddly enough, my father also owns an 84 300SD that did NOT have it, so they must have changed out in the production cycle somewhere...
