Hey!
I took a picture of the unused pin on the alternator, is it suppose to be unused? and what is it used for?

Thanks in advance

The factory service manual doesn't show any spare parts included in the alternator: Removing and installing alternator. However, looking at illustrations for Removing and installing regulator (B, compact alternator) make me think you are missing a cover.

The tab in your photo does seem correct. I'm wondering if it might be an internal connection between the cover which seems to be missing and the alternator body.
Ahh yes the cover is missing because I just removed it while checking the regulator's condition, the pin is not connected to the cover as it's connectable/reachable with the cover mounted on the alternator.

I just replaced my voltage regulator and was wondering the same thing! I checked the harness to that side and couldn't find an empty. So, it may be just an alternate pin for other OEMs that that Bosch part was made for?
