Discussion Starter #1 (Edited)
My alternator seized this eve. What I thought was the starter motor making weird noises - on start up - turned out to be the alternator. It locked up while I was in traffic and then melted the Fan Belt - which in turn melted the plastic Guide Wheel

How big a job have I got to look forward too. My local junk yard is full of 300E's (I have a 92 TE) I assume just about any Alternator will fit but will any Guide Wheel fit ?

It looks like it's a bit of a crappy job to do ? Any special tools needed ?

I am also in need of the rear silencer/muffler for a TE (VA Inspection due any minute)

Thanks guy's - it always seems to be something !!

i know its not genuine mercedes, but it has a lifetime warranty. don't use a junkyard part, you'll probably just have to swap it back out within the next month.

get the pulley from the yard for a couple bucks and you are set. almost might as well swap out the water pump while you are in there.:D

or call the dealer and see what they will bend you over for. i would probably just use a mercedes water pump though. they seem to last a long time.
