my 84 alternator cost $189. and it was for the dual v-belt system.
some penetrating lube, standard sockets, breaker bar and a impact gun and your set to do the job. pick yourself up copy of the haynes or chiltons manual. they have step by step instruction in there, it's pretty standard. disconnect from battery, loosen the belt, bust loose 3 nuts remove, change over blades, reinstall in reverse. takes about 30 minutes if you don't break anything and have all the right parts/tools

Have a shop bench test it.
Also a good rebuild/repair shop can probably rebuild it (if needed) for ~$100 or so (depending on your location, that you Didn't Post!!)

You can blow a diode in the bridge by doing that on some cars.

I am not able to get one right now. I have the alternator bolts (top, and bottom) off. But the belt does not want to go off the pulley? Any suggestions??
