The Passenger door on my 300d wont close right. when you go to swing it closed, it closes, but not ALL the way. its still visibly open by .25 inch, and not sealed from road noise. As hard as i slam it, it will not shut fully.

Drivers side door does this occasionally, but Im able to slam it shut. Ive heard thats a check strap? But I noticed on the passenger side this brittle cracking plastic area under the strikerplate where the steel cone from the door rests when shut. I picked at it thinking it was keeping it from fully closing to no avail.

Before I tear into this blindly I was hoping to get some advice from some that have remedied this.

thanks in advance!!!

had the same issue with mine....i thought it was the lock assembly, which i replaced and that did not solve the problem (spend hours getting it installed). It was the striker plate on the frame which i replaced; afterwards, and it is closing fine, now.....; so replace that first...it's cheap and easy (might need to make little adjustment to have the perfect connection between the door assembly and the striker plate)

I was betting it had to do with the striker plate, but I dodnt see why I have to replace it. What about it is bad?

It looks the same as it did when it shut correctly.

Is there some voodoo going on between the car and the door thets keeping them from snuggiing tight?

In the photo above notice the small rubber piece on the striker opening. This piece catches on the lock mechanism on the door. If this happens, the lock mechanism closes properly. If not, then the lock mechanism is partially open.

Look for this rubber piece on the striker.
