Hello,

first of all I would like to thank all the people here for the nice platform and knowledge that can be found here.

I have a 2013 W204 with the 220CDI engine and I do have a question. Tried to use the search- option but I am not sure, if I typed anything correct... :frown

I´ve got me an air-condition unit from a w212 and replaced it for my original unit from the w204. Everything works fine... except the ECO Modus does not want to turn green again. So something seems to be wrong and I guess the "mistake" must be hidden in the middle section of the wiring. Because if I take off the cables the ECO will turn to green again. Funny: the AC is still working, but there is no indication on the front display any more.

My question now: Has anybody changed the unit as well and was it necessary to change some of the wired cables or do I need to ask somebody with a XENTRY to reprogram the unit for this purpose?

Thank you for any help.

Thomas

Sure. The part number for the module (http://www.mbgtc.de/Elektrik-Elektronik/Bediengeraet/Bediengeraet-MBGTC-347.html) is A2129008711, for the housing A2126800207 9116 (Mercedes-Benz Gebrauchtteile | Abdeckung Armatur/Heizb.). You will need another housing from the 204 and put these two together. Somebody from another forum did the job for me. I think I have some pictures of the work. If I find them I will put them in here.

The parts come from the w212 model.

But it depends on the model you have what module will work fine. For early models (up to 2011) you will not need the latest software on the module. After 2011 models have start/stop function and that works fine only with software 04/2013. Otherwise the ECO function will not work. I do not know if the older 204 with ECO function need a different software in the module.

Inside the AC module is a software installed and there are different versions and those provide different functions in corporation with the car´s software management. If something is not up to date to the model year it could cause problems.

My w204 is a 2013 model and therefor I needed the software 04/2013. In my s204 from 2009 the oldest software was ok.

Besides the ac mod I have changed some other stuff in my car as well.

First thing I changed was the inside manual for the automatic mirror (real pnp). On the back seats I have built in the reading lights (therefor I needed to get another cable from the front unit). All lights are changed to LEDs and the latest mod was the front grill from the Edition C.

Next will be the center armrest. I don´t like that plastic thing that is built in. I found the Nappa version from the A207 but it is a little bit expensive. But it looks better... :grin

I did not need to update the flashware myself, I bought a newer unit with the adequate software already installed.

There is a possibility to update with a XENTRY oder SD. Haven´t tried yet but will do, soon.

On the picture below you see the firmware date: 0840 ist 2008 40th week. The newer model I bought had something with 1310, 2013 week 10.

BTW: If you give your car to a dealer/ service station they can update the firmware as well. At least they do it anyway when they service the car.

Here another picture to show the differences in the units. Looks better than the original.

Hm... interesting question. The base unit should be the same and the interpretation of the values should be done in the specific units. But I remember there was a hint to switch the Centigrade to Fahrenheit. At least it is possible to change miles to kilometers in the KI.

I went through all the settings in the car and could not find a switch between F and C. I wish I could because being from Europe, I still haven't gotten used to Fahrenheit. Sometimes I wish we would convert to metric system here. It's just so much easier.

After I saw how different the w212 bezel is and how much skill it would take to convert it to fit in w204, I don't think I'll do that conversion. Although it just looks so much better... I found 2013 controller on eBay for 120usd shipped. Problem is with the bezel.

Thank you for all your info. And as I have said before, nice mods.

Yes, the bezel is a problem. You need to cut the 212 bezel so there is just a 3mm corner around the fitting and then cut out the hole in the 204 bezel so the 212 will fit in. All of them needs to be glued together. I tried to make a bezel out of wood (looks nice, too) but it didn´t work. So I gave it to a member in the motor talk forum and he fixed it for me. There is not much space in the place where the AC unit is mounted. 1mm too far on one side and it does´t fit. He has done a pretty good job.

I asked Google. The Unit itself only works the parameters out. Start and stop points are indicated in °Centigrades oder Fahrenheit, the difference values are the interesting values. So if you put in an European version of the unit it should show the correct °Centigrade values, the rest of the car is still in modus Fahrenheit. That works easy with the original 204 unit because only the numbers of the temperature is changed, rest stays the same.

How hard is it to get a Canadian unit? They use the °Centigrade, too as far as I know.

The unit I am looking at is from UK. However I am asking the seller to verify one thing. He says that it came from 2012 car, but climate control picture shows software date of 13 year 13 week which is weird. What is the earliest build date that will work with 2012 car?

I think I'll try this mod. I will take both trims to work and use milling machine to mill out both trims. I hope I won't mess up the filler/sanding/painting :)

In 2012 there was a facelift. Maybe he meant the model year 2012? Then the car and so the software of the AC unit could be newer than 2012. But however, the later the better.

EDIT: What year is your car? Sure, 2012... every unit later than 2012 will work fine.
