Hello,

I am in progress to check the alternators brushes and since i dont have the proper tools for removal of the fan, I wonder if it is possible to remove the air pump bracket instead? As you know there is not much space for this operation.

Thanks in advance.

Voltage regulator replaced but...

Yes it is possible to remove the alternator after removing the air pump bracket. I did it this weekend. The fan can stay in place. I had 3 mm left of the brushing on the car with 250 000 km on it.

I also tried to change my low tone horn but this was not a success. The old horn was rusted out and fell apart when I poked it. It was 405 hz Fiamm. I bought a new one from MB and it was 420 hz Bosch and also had a different cable connection. Same part number though. This did not matter since the old connections were corroded and could not be taken apart. I cut the wire to the horn and peeled off the insulation.

To my surprise I discovered that it actually had three cables going in to that horn. I figured that it was an additional one for heavy current. The connection could only take one single cable so I left one unconnected. I should not have done that, because none of the horn works after this. Probably they are in parallel. Well I have to look at it next weekend and solder it together.

Best regards

JH
