Air Leak From Injector's

Hi Guys

Well in short I've been trying to set WUR pressures for the last 3 weeks ( I have a seperate thread on that ), I've got close but the engine still seemed to be a uneven. Tried mixing the CO2 mixture and it helped a little, but engine still uneven. So as advised on my other wur post I've invested in a smoke testing machine.

The outcome of the smoke test was a small air leak coming from 1 injector from each side of the block, 1 leak from the idle/tick over screw and 1 coming from the pipe going into the fuel distributor housing...

My question is would these leaks affect the actual wur setting calibration and co2 adjustment, and cause the engine to still idle a little ruffly..

Will try to add a short video

Cheers (y)

That looks like a leak around or near the cold start valve also. Yes this effect the WUR performance and the engine idle may be rough. You may find the manifold vacuum is low. You can get a handheld vacuum pump with gauge for $16 from Amazon. you should have at least 16 in of vacuum at idle for WUR to perform correctly during warm up.
Anyway you injector seals need to be replaced. The problem may be that the holders are in bad shape also but you need to remove to determine. These are not readily available anymore. You can by them in a set with the seals and injectors for $560 on ebay. To remove may need to use a hair dryer and heat to remove so you can replace the o'rings on the holder and the injectors. Maybe you won't need holders. See if there are no cracks in the holder and the orings fit snug on injectors and manifold. These are plastic and the seal is not always good with age as they deform.

I belive when you add all those leaks together it may become significant. The injectors appear to be leaking from the holders which may be caused by a bad O ring on the end of the holder. If one or more injector is not flowing correctly it can cause rough idle and affect power. The injector fuel flow should be "atomized" (cloud like). If injector shoots a stream of fuel or shoots at an angle, the injector needs replacing. In addition, an injector may not be flowing enough fuel causing an imbalance at idle or WOT. When is the last time the injectors were replaced?

To troubleshoot this, requires conducting an injector flow test. If you are going to replace injector O rings it would be a good idea to do the flow test at that time.

When is the last time a fuel pressure test of the FD and WUR were conducted?

Injector seal leaks are the staple food for 107 gremlins.
Methinks it shoud be on a 10yr/50000km maintenance list

I replaced contoured hoses because they hardened but I still used cable ties around the ends (near cold start injectors). It was a superfluous replacement as cable ties fixed leaks at the ends of old hoses.
I would suggest cable ties (zip ties) as a fix on these hoses if contoured hoses are not brittle or cracked.
