Okay I know that some of you guys don't like the K&N Filter systems becuase it lets certain particals.. First of all what kind of Actual harm can this cause. I have A K&N filter fitted on my car right now and I hope I'm not messing my car up too bad.

In the Spirit of group buys.. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a custom K&N intake like the one in the attached picture like a single 500/420/380 intake or would everyone prefer a more expensive 560 style intake with 2 of these deals. I would want it to be like the custom intakes that have been made by members. Such as the one that used Volkswagon intake components, I don't remember who's it was but It was nice.

I'd want it fully boxed for maximum actual COLD AIR INTAKE. It would collect air from the same point as the stock intake, by the radiator on one or both sides. depending on what everyone says. I could ry and talk to K&N and try to get this organized..

Or maybe even our own intake/exhaust specialist NUR-Spec could make us all something nice?:D:D:D:D:D

Okay I now figured out who's car it was. Of course it was Nomada and Lander91's cars, Nomada/LANDER: can you Pleaseeeee post more pictures of those, setups and are there anymore updates to be had? The fsecond picture is Lander's and the third is Nomada's then the fourth was Nomada's Redone and more boxed off. How did that work out Nomada?

Well, instead of going this route I'd do what AMG did w/ their hammer, namely fitting a 560SL intake snorkel on the drivers side of the air box, that way you would have 2 large diameter hoses feeding the engine.

This intake system is already a CAI.

Also, I'd say anyone w/ a V8 should switch to the dual snorkel, it's one less limiting factor in the scheme of things..

I was just about to ask if this was worth it since I saw a 560 dual setup in the yard the other day.

Yes, very much so. The dual snorkel intake was installed for one reason only "performance increase".

I never did any testing to see if there were any power benefits, with my custom exhaust though I'm sure there would have been...there was definitely a detectable increase in throttle response and induction noise at least

I recently ditched that setup though after Lander generously gifted me the 560 air-box from his SEC
I haven't driven the car for a few weeks though as I'm needing a new air filter for it and I am yet to decide whether to get a K&N filter for the 560 airbox or an OEM filter from the MB dealer

Although I must say, I do miss the roar of the air into the engine that I had with the previous intake setup
I also don't like how extremely hot the stock air-box gets, I think it's worse than having a pod filter openly sitting in an engine bay, where at least there is airflow from outside to help out

Landers current setup is fantastic I think, having custom, dual, cold air-boxes near the radiator openings is surely the best solution

Is his setup a M119 cover on a m177 with the carbon fiber?

Jonathan,

So what you are saying is, set every engine up with the 560 intake system?

I see these all the time on e-bay, but never the hose for the driver side. Where do you get the hose connection for the driver's side??>

Exactly I would pay good money for something that would be put on as a direct fitt....

Yup..:)

And what they Really need is the aforementioned Hammer intake system..I need to find some SL intakes to make the necessary mods. I'll take some photo's of the one off the Hammer sometime soon and post them up.

I remember seeing a picture of a 560 engine with the sock air box but it had custom dual chrome snorkels. They looked like the pipes were a larger diameter and they made more of a straight shot to the front of the engine bay. They had those cone K&N's on the end of each pipe. I'll dig around a little this weekend to see if i can find it. It was posted in the photo galleries here at benzworld.

I think that a good setup would be one that had big dual pipes that ran from the grill to a better designed air box. Something similar to the m119... actually, can you put an m119 air box on an m117 v8?

Note: I have K&N's in all my cars. I clean them and re-oil them carefully. I have had one on my suburban for 130,000 miles without a problem. I notice that i get slightly better pull in the upper RPM's. Even if you don't choose K&N I think that it is a good idea to put in a nicer air filter.

Will the 500SL air box fit on the 117 engine?
I have an extra 560 air box for my 500.
Should we be on the lookout for the 500SL box, or just the 500SL drivers side snorkel to be added to the 560 box?

The M119 box isn't much (if any) better IME. Pulling the box off an M119 always results in more power on the dyno..

We need the SL snorkels, but you can't buy them w/o the [email protected] least not new.

Got a pic? My SEL snorkels, you're saying, are not suitable... I need a 560 air box and the intake snorkels from an SL?

The 560 air box off the 1987 that's rusting in my back yard bolts right onto the engine in the 380, which should be a vast improvement already... I was going to just take the intake scoops off the 560, and attach them to the 380 as well...

But, if what I need is the whole outfit from an SL, I guess I'll be shopping for two: one for the 1985 380SE and another for the 1991 560SEL (for when it ever gets on the road).

If I understand this correctly, the 500SL 119 has a larger driver side snorkel, to be used to replace the smaller snorkel on the 560 air box drivers side intake. Are they of the same diameter?

The 500SL or 560SL (R107's) have the snorkel that we want to add to 560 SEC/SEL Air boxes.

Is which the same diameter? The 560SL and 560SEL/SEC snorkels?
