While fiddling around with the spare tire today on my '83 300 wagon, I noticed there was a disconnected air line that had a screw on fitting. This air line was dangling next to the power antenna assembly and didn't really seem to attach to anything. The line was only just a few inches long and looked like it was an original item. Could this be the cause of my non functioning self leveling system or just an accessory item.

Are you sure it is an air hose? Sounds like the evaporator line from the fuel tank. It should hook up with an evaporator tank. The suspension is mainly hydraulic and runs off a pump at the front of your engine. The faults can be many, but no air line is involved in this system.

Yup, it's a vacuum line

There is a vacuum tank that rests below the rear lid. It holds and stores vacuum for the door locks. You will often find that the transmission will shift hard if disconntected.
