Hi
Whats the correct way of plumbing in an air horn? I have a 1300L with dual air systems. Does it matter which system I use?

Alternatively, should I play safe and use a new tank with one way valve? I guess the horn and brakes are most usefull at the same time

I would suggest you start by taking an air brake course, you might find you need one to drive the truck legally. That way you can under stand the air system much better, I thought I know how it all worked, but after the course I have a much better idea now. They you need to find the accessory air supply on your truck, it will run the 4X4, difflock, exhaust brake, and some other systems, tap into that system to run your horn. If you are going to go with an electric valve you will need to get a large one, I started with a 1/4" valve bit it did not flow enough air, I now have a 3/4" and its much better.

Good luck

Be careful, the 1300L has a 18 bar air system. That is about 280 PSI. A bit high for the average air horn.

... accessories should always be run from the secondary supply, for safety's sake. Good luck !

I picked up a set on ebay. They were blems from Siege Engineering Inc's Online Store - Featured Products and they work great. The sound is light years better than the stock horn. They are easy to install. I used the extra plug located on the back of my aux tank. I drilled the center out of the bung plug and welded in an adapter. I'm sure it can be threaded as well. Then run the plastic air line up to the horn and it plugs into the quick fit connector. Two wires run to the stock horn complete the set up. Hit the stock horn switch and it will dump the valve. Mine uses very little air. You would have to lay on the horn for quite some time to lose air pressure. Hope this helps.

That's the same horn I bought. I ran the original control wire for the electric horn to a two-way switch under the dash that allows me to toggle between the normal horn and the air horn. I think there are laws about what you can run legally in town. It will definitely get people's attention. I bought the blem model then painted it flat black.

chas /vmax....do you have the model#? price? im assuming they come with 24v valves?
are you regulating the pressure or giving them the whole 280psi? i bet they really rip.
For prices check eBay Store - train horn: air horn, siege, engineering on their ebay store. 280 PSI!?!?! I have a lowly 416 that makes 90 psi at the aux tank. At 90 psi the best way I can put it. On a scale from 1 to WAKE THE DEAD these horns will have you producing a zombie film in no time. They are that ridiculously loud. As for the 24 Volt solenoid reach out for the seller. I'll bet he will come up with something for you.

The model I have is the Hammer III.

Thanks for all the information.

I have a dual air system on my 1300L. I have drawn this in the attached pdf since the pneumatics diagrams in the manuals are pretty hard to follow for a novice like me. Can somebody explain the proper function of the 4-way valve?

So I guess the air horn would be best on the handbrake circuit?

Thanks

Howdy Krisinak,
I have the same model HammerIII and I have a 12v mog. My pressure is 8bar so I give it full pressure and am still below the 150psi rating. I'm still thinking about buying another set for the other side. When I hit the horn the driver's side of the truck lifts up, so, I need the balance. I paid about $80 for the "blem". I couldn't see any issues and they are built well.
