Got my 300SE back from the shop, now running and driving, except the A/C is dead in the water. When you set it to either of the two A/C modes, the compressor kicks on, the idle boosts, the fans start, and you can hear a faint hissing in the dash. however, the air still blows warm (ambient temp). 20,000 miles ago, (long after R12 became controlled) the service records mentioned an "A/C Evacuate & Recharge" to the tune of about $200. I think it got pumped full of R134A which destroyed the receiver drier/accumulator. However, I don't know what the symptoms of a damaged receiver drier are.
Anyone care to provide a little insight?

get a gauge from a local auto parts store and check your pressure on the low side. Your compressor can still kick on and do all the right stuff but if the pressure is just a bit too low, it will fell warm. Your dryer and filter does not usually go out on its self unless it clogs but you will get other issues if thats the case. Pressure would really be high then probably
