Air conditioning knobs

The two round air conditioning knobs on my CLK320 2003/2004 are melting. The outer ring seems to be rubber made or a kind of plastic. I asked for replacing them at local dealer, but it was said that they only sell the whole air-conditioning control face. It cost $450. I asked, but they did not provide me the part number. Can anyone tell me how we can replace just the knobs?
