Confused?`

I'm confused. On my '98 S500 there is a sticker which includes the air bag expiration date. I'm pretty sure it's located on the door pillar.

Normally a sticker on the back of the bag itself, but its a bit arbitrary as there is no real science regarding their longevity. Hot & humid environment will be worse than cool & dry, but the manufacturers can't predict where they will end up, so "one size fits all". Go to a breakers, get the oldest bag you can find (not the one in the office) and I bet it goes off fine.

Yes, there is an expiration date usually posted on the B-pillar on the driver's side. Although many believe this expiration date is just an insurance against liability lawsuits for manufactures if an old air bag does not go off.

First life span was believed to be 8-years, then it was raised to 10, now I think is up to 15. But who knows, it could be 20, 25, 30...
