<br>Wow! A W-116 only board! I have always loved the W116 chassis MB for it's agile handling, classic look and daily driveability. I currently use an '80 300SD as my daily driver between Cleveland and Cincinnati (250 miles each way). I make the trip there and back every week and the car performs beautifully every time! Until recently I owned a '79 6.9 but unfortunately after 20 years of being driven through Ohio winters, it got to the point of either a major restoration or junking it. Since it had 203,000 miles on it, I decided to sell it off and find a fresher one. My brother-in-law has a 79 300SD, wondered if you could tell me how the 6.9 compares, is it something that is upgradeable for power/etc, we are into the 116-series also but know little about them - have 86 Saab 900T, 72 914, and want to learn more.

I know nothing about MB's. I just imagine they're a fortune maintain even the most routine maitenance most cost a bunch: oil changes, tune-ups, alignments, etc.<br> <br> Nevertheless, I saw a picture of a 1989 420SEL that has gotten me intoxicated to find out more about MB's. (the price= $5,777 miles = unknown).<br> <br> So i've come to this web site; plugged in 1989 420 SEL and came up with your comments. <br> <br> Would you mind sharing with me your experiences with teh 1989 420 SEL: maitenancewise, reliabilitywise (let's assume my 'dream car' has 150,000 miles on it for $5,777), costwise. Will it be difficulat getting parts? Currently, I'm 2 yrs. into my used Toyota Avalon ('98, 47k miles when purchased) and want the same type of reliaibilty, but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet when come to repairing a MB of similiar vintage. My only beef with my Avalon, I still feel cramped-- I'm 6'3', 360 lbs, size 15 shoes andI want to stretch out a bit if I have drive long distances. Any suggestions? Thanks.
