Morning, fellow W163 enthusiasts....

Grill above is a pretty good deal and a much better solution than a used one that has been exposed to the elements for many years with fading, cracking, brittleness, etc. Fits well on any W163 but you will need to supply your own ten screws and clips from your previous grill .
If you like a little more bling you can get a roll of flexible chrome strip that is easily cut and has a 3M adhesive strip on the back that is of excellent quality. Made by Cowles Custom, comes in different widths and lengths. I went with the 3/4 inch width which is 12 feet long and plenty to do all the horizontal surfaces. Looks pretty good and easy to cut. Available at ADVANCE auto parts for about $15.00 . Part number S37734 SKU 085387377341....
Will post pictures later this morning.

This is a much better solution than an OEM grill that has seen its better days.

This part is SIMILAR to an OEM grill but not identical. You will need to supply your original MB plastic chrome plated stainless for the center (carefully remove by turning counter-clockwise). Also the original had a black plastic support under the three wings of the star. This reproduction does not. Seems to work just fine, just not identical......

I remember buying the chrome strips for my 99 ML for about $30, before the actual silver grill was available. You can buy W164 style grill for the W163.

Here's a couple of the pictures of the old girl with the new grill !!

Next project is changing out the CPS.....got a Bosch coming from FCPeuro.

I have done this replacement before on the SAME car, but I'll be damned if I can figure out HOW I did it. Looked at it this morning and I can trace the cable down to the sensor, but that it! This was from the top , but I might revisit the driver wheel well access. Was hoping to do it myself and I knew I would need a long extension for my 3/8 ratchet. Already have an E8 for the bolt and a 3/8 wobble swivel, but I have no clue on how I did it before !

One thing I do know is you want to do it when the engine is cold ! Even running it for a few minutes is enough time to heat it up enough to where it can burn you.......

I recall there was recent thread on cps change "on top or thru the wheel well". Dont recall if it was in this forum or the w210. Either case, I still prefer thru the wheel well cps swap. Just cant deal with laying on my stomach on blankets etc (to prevent those jabs and underhood heat, if any (or especially in the summer heat)
On the w210, topside access on the M119 was just too tight and finicky for me, when I tried a dry test run.

I change them through the top. V6 is easiest. You’ll need a series of universals and extensions.
