On the drive home yesterday a stray piece of concrete rolled right under my car (only in Houston !)and completely tore out my exhaust, including the Catalytic converter, center and rear-muffler. I have found some being sold at German Star and Autohaus Arizona for about a 3rd of the price. Looking for advice, experience, recommendations from you guys as to the quality of the after market replacements or referals to other suppliers.

Why not check out your local muffler shop ask for a price on a dodge pickup system. I replaced my cat on my 1988 560 SEL with a dodge cat welded in place was $350.00 CDN Installed verses $1,200.00 at the MB dealer stealer.

check out Hot Rod Scotts in etobicoke on kipling ave. they did mine. all welded stainless, custom bends with a free flow cat, resonator, brullen muffler and brullen tips.

give me a shout if you want to meet up and hear mine. had in for 5 years no problems. passed all emmission with flying colors.

Check with Steve Haygood...

He sells the DEC cat and can get several different exhaust systems (and will tell you whether you're REALLY saving $$ buying cheaper ones).
He's a pro mechanic and parts source - has parts drop shipped to you.

Is anyone aware of an after-market Cat that is a direct fit on a 89 420 SEL [2 pipes in, 2 out] ?

DEC, that's it.. I forgot the C was on the end. They really stand by their cats. Just an FYI, if you don't change your O2 cat companies will Not warantee their product.

Also learned today that Catco and Bosal cats are one in the same..Bosal buys their cats from catco and re-badges them...[xx(][xx(][xx(]

Need I ask the price? I went there to do my brother-in-laws 540, and my Jeep Comanche. On my Jeep, I have headers that needed to be welded, but I could tell that he didn't want to do it. Instead he was quoting me some funny numbers for the exhaust.
None the less I hear they are good.

Jonathan was very helpful ...thank you.

The Bosal that showed up was not the right CAT for my car ( I was told I have a CA exhaust system and I ordered "Federal"). Now I have ordered what appears to be a DEC with 2 in 2 out. Keeping my fingers crossed.....
