Our B200 will be due for an ATF fluid and filter change soon. The dealer was quoting $360 and I nearly Shat myself. The last vehicle I had that required a filter change was under $100, and my Escape costs me $20 in fluid every 36K (drain and top up...repeat) or $79 at the dealer (??). It has a 250,000 mile "permanent" filter. Our old Odyssey was the same procedure.

Is there a special proprietary fluid for these or can I use an over the counter fluid? Plus, the gasket / filter kit I assume...probably only avail from MB in Canada at least.

So, my question...is this a "dealer only" service or can I get a good independent to do it (not Mr Lube) for a lot less with the right stuff?
