Can i put a Dust Filter (Pollen Filter: the one that sits over blower motor) With Activated Charcoal in my s500 instead of the plain one ? My car does not have the function for this, if so what are the benefits ?

Thanks

If your vehicle does not have the charcoal filter option, why put one in? Even if you do have the option, putting in a charcoal filter will deteriorate and drop charcoal bits into your blower motor.
Many of us whose cars have the charcoal filter option, choose to put in the least expensive plain paper filter and change it once a year.
Frankly, there are no benefits in the real world using a charcoal filter. But you can buy inexpensive charcoal filters that do not drop the charcoal bits into the blower motor if this is what you want.

Wait a minute the activated charcoal filter sits down in the plenum, and cant be removed unles the wiper mechanisim and the valley pan is removed. You will have this filter if you have a filter switch on the dash. The other filter sits on top of the blower and can be activated charcoal, some after market filtrs are just pain pleated filters, MB recently reduced the price of those, I dont think you will get any granules into the system, they just do a better job of filtering.

Yes i was thinking along the lines of that it would just improve filtering as opposed to non charcoal version even though i dont have the option on my vehicle i was looking at the one below on sale at autohaus:

1408350147

Corteco/Micronair
Cabin Air Filter/Pollen Filter; With Activated Charcoal
In engine compartment, passenger side by firewall. For models with activated charcoal (odor) filter. There is a switch on the console for activated charcoal system. 1 per car.

There's another thread on this somewhere, but the charcoal and non-charcoal filters are now essentially the same price. IIRC, the carbon part is on the top of the filter so there's no worry about carbon bits falling into the blower.
