Hello All.
Our 91 190E just blew a headgasket and its beat up so we are looking for a good used car.

Is this a good deal, or am I gonna pay for more things possibly breaking down in the upcoming years because it has 154,000 miles?
This is a quote from the seller:

" 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 300E
AMG body kit, AMG/OZ wheels, Remus exhaust, Eibach suspension, and Eibach Sway Bar kits. Just had headgasket replaced w/ new timing chain tensioner, new flex disc, new iming chain cover seal. *** Guaranteed Clean Title *** Car runs good and blow cold A/C. Everything works on the car! I bought the car few months back from a friend who are the original owner since 1992.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanx

Even IF you had included a price, both those questions are impossible to answer.

That being said, I only believe in original stock cars. I'm generalizing, but I feel like most people that start trying to improve on Mercedes engineering are young and/or immature and are more concerned with an aftermarket exhaust than preventative maintenance.

My car is currently in for preventative maintenance:Coolant, thermostat, overflow cap, return fuel lines, brake flush, battery, metal fuel line hold down clips. These are the things that make a Mercedes go 500K.

It sounds like he bought it from his friend cheap BECAUSE it had a blown head gasket and soon realized, like yourself, that you can't repair it and make it financially viable. Of course this whole story of his might not be true. Remember, if that much has been done in a few months it sounds like the previous owner was not diligent on maintenance. Just go in with your eyes open.

I agree $4K, max is what I would pay. And make sure to ask the receipts to back up what was done.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention the cost. Its $5,500.00
I bought mine in April for $4,000 and it's a diesel with only 104,000 miles, just for comparison. It is bone stock, mint interior and an overall good body.

My Service advisor called 10 minutes ago and told me my car is ready to be picked up. He said the mechanic was thrilled to work on it because they don't get many 300D's that look this good and have been this well maintained. Nice to hear but I'm sure he was just softening me up for the bill total, lol.

I second the showing of the receipts....Lord help you if he did the head gasket on his own.
