have any of you bought any parts to increase you're horsepower?

i know the e320 isn't really meant to be a sports sedan but it never hurts to have a little bit of extra power sometimes.

bonus points if you post a link to an online store that sells the part.

MB engineers haven't left many ponies lying around on the workbench. You'll spend a small fortune getting a significant increase. DO NOT fall for the K&N air filter hype. The E430 has a bit more pep and the E55 will pin you backwards in your seat. Have you ever gone into WOT or kickdown mode? If not, these E320 might surprise you, it did me anyway. I see you're new, welcome to the W210 forum.

Sorry WOT means wide open throttle. Kickdown means the same thing and it's when you floor the pedal to the metal. If you haven't tried that, your E320 might surprise you as it did me.

<edit> I just saw the Kajtek1 post. He's right, there is a switch you only hit if you floor that baby.

More horsepower is easy: trade it in. Values being what they are the cost difference to step into the 430 or AMG is significantly less than it would cost you to improve the M112 to respectively get half the horsepower difference.

And your car will hopefully end up in the hands of someone who appreciates it just for what it is, rather than wishing it were someting else. ;)

Do you mean putting a Chevy engine into it? Engine swaps have been done, and a 430 or 55 AMG is certainly possible. I don't know about any of the GM engines.

Are those Supra engines that much more powerful than what we have now? All I know is Toyota no longer makes a Celica of any kind. BTW, I have a 1991 Camry with a 2.5l V-6 and it runs pretty well but not as well as my E320.

I don't know why anyone would abandon the 3.2 V6.

221 horsepower from 3.2 liters is not too exciting today, but back in 1998 that was a seriously hot little motor. GM/Ford/Chryco V6s could barely break 200 hp with their biggest engines (usually in the 3.8 to 4.0 liter range) and their small V6s (2.5 to 3.2) could be lucky to have 175 hp.

Another fun fact: the 1998 Ford Mustang GT with a 4.6 liter V8 produced 225 horsepower, only 4 more than our little workhorse. 4!!!!

x2. anytime your getting more than 1HP/cu in from a normally aspirated engine, there's not much more to be had cheaply.

remember the old adage "the only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars!

in 97 the E420 was putting out almost double the horsepower of the chevy 4.3l pushrod engine. (275 vs. 145)
