I was curious adding the nav system to this car I just got.
When I select Nav on the computer it says "Nav not available".
Doing some research I think I just need the dvd drive which is available in a few places. The car appears to have the wiring, antenna and optical connections which I assume are for the drive. I'll enclose a couple of pictures. Can someone confirm that I just need the drive and dvd disc?

Thanks!

You may also need to have the AGW version coded to add Nav to the audio circuit for the COMAND and the COMAND may need to have its firmware updated.

Based on the photos you attached, I believe you are looking at the passenger side behind the trunk liner. This is where the XM receiver goes and those connections are for the XM module. You can add it also, but you'll need the XM module, the trunk mount antenna, and probably have to add it to enable it in MOST.

The NAV drive goes behind the driver side trunk liner and actually requires a different trunk liner. There are two brackets which hold the drive in place, and there is a "field upgrade" cable kit you will need which extends the fiber MOST loop and power to the NAV drive. The NAV system actually uses your rooftop spike antenna which is already on the car.

I've done both of these upgrades to an '05 E320 we bought, and I would do the XM again. I'm not sure I would do the NAV upgrade because parts were at least double what a top line Garmin would have cost even though I bought as much as possible on ebay.

Don't get me wrong, you can end up with "factory installed" NAV and XM this way, but you'll probably be disappointed in the granularity of the NAV data. If you search for some of my posts you'll find part numbers and other discussion...

Thanks for the replies.
How do I check to see if the firmware needs upgrading?

As for the photos, they are from the drivers side. It looked like there were 2 antenna connections, a power connection and what looked to me like a dual fiber connection.

I'll check out the other discussions too. thanks!
