Is there any way to turn off the active handling in my 2005 500 E 4matic? With the A/H engaged it's impossible to do a decent donut in the ski area parking lot. It's embarrassing! With my Corvette I can just push a button and it goes away.

Wrong forum. You have a W211. This is the W124 forum for (US spec) cars sold between MY 1986-1995.

Be careful doing donuts on a W211 as those cars have a nasty habit of the electronic steering system having a electronic meltdown requiring a hefty repair bill.

Repair bills? I've owned 8 M/B's and none have seen the inside of a dealership. I'm a fair shade tree mechanic (I've rebuilt 6 M/B's from totals - 8 Vettes too). LCG, Of course you're right about hooning. My all time fav. was a 1980 280 grey market CE. (euro headlights, 4 speed) Now...… THAT car would do donuts, ski area or dry pavement. My wife put 200,000 miles on it and just wore it out. Sold it for almost as much as I paid for it. Got it during the last year of the (legal) grey market's. It's still on the road today in Hood River, Oregon.

And how long have you had that glorified Chrysler with the 3 pointed swastika on it? The W211 stems from the dark days (everything MB between 2000-2010), when the engineers got banished to the basement and reliability took a backseat.

I've had 3 from that era (W203, W209, and W215) and they were all electronic sh!tshows. My best friend still has a W211 E320 CDI wagon and it is no different.

Tyler Hoovie captured his electronic steering meltdown on video whilst/after doing a donut in his "GREEN" E55 AMG wagon

Well, sbaert, I disagree. I've owned several M/B's from "that era" and the only trouble I had with any of them was an alternator going tits up. Got a replacement on Ebay for thirty bucks.

Well, maybe you found the diamond in the basket of rotten apples that was the DaimlerChrysler marriage. I've been in the MB game for over 40 years and the W124 is the last "built to a standard" car that is infinitely repairable. Everything that came afterwards was "built to a budget" and has baked in "planned obsolescence".

P.S.: Have you checked your SBC system lately?
