More sorting - this was disconnected and looks to have been from some time. My guess is the AC failed for some reason and this was disconnected to disable the system.

The disconnected wire is light blue, and I believe this is the AC drier unit.



I'm also wondering if, since the system is inoperative, if it makes sense to remove the belt. OK or terrible idea?

I removed the belt on my SL. Couldn't see the point of driving the compressor clutch.

On my 300D, shop disconnected leads, but perhaps not same ones. I think it was so clutch would not try and engage, because compressor is seized.

Yeah, can't see much value in have the engine turning something that isn't working but wanted to ask first.
