I wed going to get my emissions done today on my 1992 600SEL, and mechanic said I need to turn the ABS off to get the test done but I don't know how to. Does anyone have any idea on how to turn the ABS off on this car?

The testing stations here have reference material that tells them if a car has traction control. When I took my S600 in, they did not put it on the rollers. They only tested it at idle while in park.

They don't even do that anymore, here in Chicago. They no longer test pre-ODBII cars.

I think maby your mechanic ment ASR not ABS

When I took in my car for Air Car (Vancouver emission control) they put it on the rollers, and i dont bleive they turned off traction control.

But yes the testing station should have the required info on how to handle your car.

good luck

if you have a scanner handy (to clear the code after you re done) you can unplug the left front wheel speed sensor, this will disable ABS and ASR due to error (open speed sensor). both lights will come on.

after you re done, you ll need to delete the code, otherwise, the ABS+ASR lights will stay on for few more weeks...
