Hello everyone, I've made a search and haven't found anything about this, so I hope not to be bringing up something old.

I have a 560SEC and everything is working more or less normally (the engine is great, got the new timing chain and a service by Mitch Cars in Rockville, MD best in the area) but the ABS will kick in under slow speeds until it turns itself off.

Only after I reach 25-30mph and/or 3rd gear does the ABS go off, I say this because the ABS light goes on, so I am guessing it turns itself off. So what happens is that as i stop at a stop sign or i have to brake for a bump the ABS kicks in and it's really annoying (it also causes the car to brake less). I've never had any problems but I need to fix this, I do have a manual and the mechanics did mention it on their report but I asked them only to work on the engine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I know this may sound funny to a lot of you, but the car is actually as old as me. I intend for it to last through college, and after my BA I'll keep it forever. I bet we'll run out of oil before the SEC stops running heheh.

it's a bad sensor.. Until you get it fixed I would unplug the BIG computer on the fire wall (ABS computer). Having the ABS kick in like that when it shouldn't increases your stopping distance a good bit and could result in your nice coupe making friends w/ the rear end of the car in front of you.

I would start by cleaing your front wheel sensors/sensor trigger gears.

Thanks for your messages. What is it I should actually do? And where is the ABS sensor? I have a cd manual and haven't been able to find anything specifically on the ABS.

Should I clean the two sensors that are touching the actual brake pads?

I changed the pads about a week ago, and it now shuts off the ABS quicker.

Nonetheless I still need to replace the ABS sensor probably right? Could you direct me as to what to do? Thank you.

If you have the factory manual it will tell you in relative detail how to work on the ABS/brake system. The two sensors you are refering two are just for brake pad wear. The ABS sensor is forward of the caliper..held in w/ a 5mm hex bolt.

In the manaul they have the procedure on how to test them, what the readings should be etc..

This has been discussed before and I'd wager w/ a bit more careful wording in the search you could come up w/ the thread.

If you don't have the factory manuals I would suggest you get yourself a set and use Steve's index.
