Hi guys

i picked up my 1999 A160 today but half way home the fuel needle droped down to 0 and now wont go above 0.

when the ignition is off you cant see the needle as it drops down out of sight but when you start the engine the needle lifts up to 0 but wont go any further and tell the true reading.

does anybody have any ideas what it could be.

Thanks David

The needle of the instrument can be locked, or floating can be locked. Have you multimeter to measure? you can be measured without lowering the tank.
Do you let the tank is almost empty?

No i havnt tried that as i dont have a volt meter, i noticed today when driving that the needle droped down to zero after about 20min of driving but then 2 min later popped back up again to 3/4 of a tank

do you think that the float is at fault or do you think that it may be a loose wire some where.

thanks David

May be some of two possibilities. The gauge may be not working when: the fuel float is locked, or may be breaking or some wire from the tank to the cluster are intermittent. Check in the next few days how it behaves. You should take this as a warning.
