Hello,

Dumb question here that's nearly irrelevant. How fast is the diesel R-class? No one seems to have posted a 0-60 time anywhere. The GL diesel is supposed to be somewhere south of 8 seconds, and I assume the R is the same considering it's a very similar weight?

As I said, it's a pretty irrelevant question considering the class of vehicle isn't made to be particularly fast nor should it, I just want to know because I don't know...

Thanks,

But why is that? If the GL is heavier, why should the R be slower?

On a completely different note, how is the premium sound on the R? If I'm not mistaken the Harmon Kardon set up is a 600 watt Logic 7 with sub-woofer, how would that compare with my 06 Rand Rover's Logic 7 sound system?

My 05 CLK500 convertible has a 320 watt 10 speaker set with sub-woofer, so I assume it's better than that? I'm the sort of chap that would much rather spend money on a better stereo than a bigger engine, so the sound is actually very important.

I have a 2008 R320 with Harman Kardon sound. I find it very good, The only thing I would upgrade would be the subwoofer.. But I am comparing it to a mega system in my
C240. Be careful when you compare the wattage, there is no way that the HK system has 700 watts RMS. Just check the fuse! Nevertheless I like it a lot!

I believe the GL is rated at 8.4 sec and the R is 9.4.

Curb weight for comparison: GL= 2455 kg and R= 2380 kg
The 320CDI is faster than 9.4, believe that it is 8.4 - 8.5sec, but I have newer timed it.

In 2008, Mercedes site posted 0-60 for R350 is 8.0 second and 8.3 second for R320 CDI.

Found this online:

Mercedes-Benz R-Class 0 to 60 mph Times & Quarter Mile Times

2006 Mercedes R350 0-60 mph 8.1

2007 Mercedes R63 AMG 0-60 mph 4.5

2011 Mercedes R350 BlueTec 4MATIC 0-60 mph 8.4 Quarter Mile 16.3

2011 Mercedes R350 0-60 mph 7.9

Sounds right, but the real benefit of the diesel is that while on highway the passing is a breeze, the torque is really nice, try to fully load it and it still pulls the car without any issues.

I guess for the 0-60 time, I just have to time it one day

Thanks for the info people! I was very curious because at first I was finding only what shingleback found and it didn't make sense.

Where is the factory sub-woofer located? Upgradding it would be nice, though I'm not usually one to mess with a factory system, especially a amped factory system. Though, I do really miss a good sub... Has anyone found a clean install point that doesn't get in the way much?

It mounted below the cover of the spare tire area.
