I have not driven the car in a few days because one of the tires had grown a knot.

while driving the car after dark today, the lights all got dim like before when the battery would go dead. the difference being i heard a faint pop and then the lights got as bright as normal again.

voltage regulator?

Not sure about the pop, but my lights go yellowish and then bright, I think one of my globes has failed or is failing.

this was the whole instrument panel. the climate control knobs/gauges and headlights as well.

i dont mind so much if it is a normal occurance but i dont want to be stranded at night in a perfectly running car if i have no electricity!!!

ive already been rear ended once and i even had my flashers on!!

Well, I thought it was the globe - battery died fairly substantially - in peak hour traffic in a very well used road (corner of Sydney Rd and Brunswick St for any Melbournians out there. Alternator Light went on and after replacing the battery had the alternator fixed.

So do it now before you are up for a new battery as well.
