Okay, I had no hope my garage could ever hold a lift of any kind. Was looking at Jay Leno's Garage site and saw a piece on the Max Jax Portable Lift System...for a garage with clearance of 8 feet.

Anyone ever heard of this thing? It looks pretty cool.

Lists at $2500. Bit too much for me.

You would need a good strong garage floor or would have to pour footings for the anchor bolts.

I am looking at the BendPak 4 post which isn't as versatile as the asymmetrical 2 post but I don't want to permanently bolt to my floor in case I need to get the tractor in.

Yep, that is the one. I think it is the same one Roncallo has. Northern Tool seems to have a decent price. 2,700 with free shipping. What have you found?

I got in touch with Garage Equipment Supply in CA, and their list is $2,199 including shipping (they are the main distributors) BTW, they will deal. You brought up a good point Graham, how the hell do you tell if your floor is heavy enough. I guess the only way would be to drill a hole to find out.

This would be a good option for me due to my limited garage height. I wouldn't be concerned about storing it away, and would probably just leave it in position and just put the pump away.

Something to think about. I no longer have the agility to float around on my back under the car, so I have to go with something like this.

Before you do that, find out if you've got a post-stressed concrete slab in your garage. If you do, don't drill into it. Very Bad Things can happen.
