Hello to all and I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving,

Two questions from right field about my SL500 (1998):

1. Does MB measure their horse power numbers from the crank or the rear wheels?

2. Anybody know why MB used recirculating ball steering instead of rack and pinion?

thanks

Did all classes of that time period use recirculating ball power steering? What do current MB's use?

thanks again.

Most models by the 98 model year were rack and pinion. I am just guessing about the recric ball steering on your car as the SL500 of your vintage was not updated as a new model until the 2002-2003 models. Yours is a R129 chassis designation. The next SLs were the R230 chassis.
