I have been offered for a good price a working 722.7 of a A170. Can I put it on a A190 ?
I can fin also à good 722.7 of a A160, can I put it on a A190 ?

you can fit the FTC and will work perfectly, no coding required, as long as it's late 99 to 2004.
regarding the 1st gear drum from USA, it's re-manufactured and not standard, and it's probably better. I saw one on ebay UK a while ago sold for £250, while new from the dealer cost £180.

Dear DeVisu, I have switched FTCs between petrol and diesel cars several times and always worked perfectly, but they were all MY cars.
Because I am a professional techniction, I have to chose my words.
you know and I know, not many people will give you this info this easy, but I'm always happy to help.

Forrera, you are very patient and helpful. I am sure a lot of users appreciate that.

Do you know if after all this time a solution has been found for this weak drum and if a modified replacement is available. Can I get some direction on where to get my hands on one and a part number if possible.

Thanks
Dave

hear is some recommendations to make your automatic gearbox last longer without breaking:

Have your gearbox serviced or fluid condition and level checked regularly.

Always worm up the engine, and gearbox . before putting it in gear, because the transmission fluid is thick when cold and that increases the hydraulic pressure which cracks first gear drum. It is imperative you do this if you have F on display and you need to move the car.

Always have a heavy duty and healthy battery fitted as the a class is very sensitive to voltage. Under-voltage will always trigger confusing fault codes.

Never use jump leads to start your a class as this car kill your ECUs prematurely. Power pack is a lot safer. Or if really have to use jump leads then connect the leads with your ignition off and run the the other car for a few minutes to charge your battery first.

If you have problem with your gearbox or gear selector have it fixed ASAP. If you ignore the fault and keep driving in limp home mode then you are risking damaging the gearbox further, especially 2nd and 4th gears.

no point strengthening first gear drum, you do that something else will break.
