My 1985 300D is not blowing cold. I know I need to retrofit and/or convert to 134 (?) and read the forums here. Not capable of doing it myself. Any suggestions for good mechanics on the Westside? Thanks....

I don't recommend going to 134. It isn't as cold and is a higher pressure system. The AC compressor on the W123 is bad enough as it is, putting it under higher pressure will ensure a shorter lifespan than normal.

R12 is actually fairly reasonable in price nowadays. Still not *as* cheap as 134, but it is worth a little extra money.

Have a pressure test performed. You will probably need a new dryer, perhaps a compressor - a nice filthy job as compressor is situated below engine - but with R12 and enough oil to keep compressor from blowing seals factory system will cool car as well as new. Which is okay. Sort of. Call Chuck at Santa Monica Radiator on Lincoln. Did a great job on my 1980 300D.

The R4 runs quite well when it's charged up with R134a. It kept my 300TD cool even in in the middle of an LA summer.

I can also reccomend my excellent mechanic in Santa Monica if it requires repairs ask for Tony who is the owner / operator and tell him you post on Benzworld.
