Hi Guys,

Somewhat newer W140 (94 S500 Coupe) owner here. Purchased last November. Amazing car so far! Loving driving this beast.

I do seem to have the dreaded leaky evaporator core, and doing research on replacement - removing almost the entire interior of the car is not something I care to take on myself.
However I've found a guide on the ALLDATA website which doesn't seem to speak about removing the dashboard. See PDF attached.

Is this another way, or am I being mislead here....?

Thanks!

That's only the procedure once you get the HVAC unit out of the car. In order to get to that point, you have to remove the dash. Look at the very first paragraph where it refers you to the procedures on how you remove the HVAC assembly.

See this eight part YouTube series:

They finally get to the point where your Alldata starts at the end of part 6.

Not too much as far as extensive testing, Winter is almost here in New England so it's not at the top of my to do list. I'd be thrilled to find out it's not the evaporator. I did recharge the entire system with refrigerant this summer, and while it was ice cold for about a day - the air came out hot the next.

You really should split up the AC system and vacuum test it before drawing any conclusions. Your evaporator core could be fine and you might not be actually fixing the problem - see my experience about the job posted recently.

Your leak could be any number of pipes, joins or of course a component like the Compressor, expansion valve or condenser.

Test first and save time and money, also aim to replace the drier
