Hi gang.
Was hoping for a bit of enlightenment. My A/C has suddenly died in my '98 E320 sedan. It blows ambient temp air now, and makes a sound sort of like some sort of gas traveling through metal lines (passing gas? heh). Thanks for any comments on what you think might be wrong, and of course, what it might cost to fix it. Cheers.

Doubt i will be taking it to a dealer, as that is a sure way to spend the maximum on repair. I will probably take it to an independant shop, but was hoping someone on here would already have some experience on this kind of repair. Cheers.

Lots of things could cause this -- low 134a, bad compressor, bad limit switches.

At that age they can be problematic. A good independent shop can run some tests to detect the source of your problem.

No way to hazard a guess.
