I bought a '85 300 td one year ago. What a great car!! But it was 96 yesterday and I turned on the a/c. Things seemed pretty ok and then a slight drop in rpm then ok then another slight drop in rpm then a spinning aluminum like metal on metal sound. I shut the control panel on the heating system off. The sound stopped. Turned it on the metal sound started again. I think it's the clutch or compressor and maybe both. (I don't know if they're totally tied together) Does anyone know about replacing these units?

Also, since I bought this car when I have the blower motor on the air coming out of the vents almost smells like some kind of exhaust gas and the inside of the windshield gets a black/grey film on it. Do I have some kind of vent/air hose that is sucking exhaust fumes into the cabin? Thanks, bioblackdog

I had an exhaust in the car problem when I first got mine. The header down pipe immediately after the turbo was cracked. Major power loss too.
