A/C and Heat has a horrible squeak and click

The A/C and heating unit in my 83 500SEL has a terrible squeak on it while blowing at all speeds, and on particularly cold days as when I took my trip, it felt like there was a tiny unnoticiable click. Any ideas for cause and repair.
