Really LAME! No historic tags! We have to smog cars back to 1975 and newer.

48hp,
WOW! really nice car!

Yes I know well the drill, but even so, we have saved a couple of really nice cars.

I was lucky in the fact that the first P.O. kept all his receipts back to the day it first was smogged in CA 17 Feb, 1988 a month after it had been imported through Houston TX and Federalized there. A whole month before Houston issued the title for the federalized car. So basically, except for a short stay in TX, it has been a CA car all but 4 years(Germany).

Let me put this out there to the Newbies with these cars that have Smog problems in CA. Especially the super nice ones.
1. Just because your car fails smog twice, you do not have to turn it in to the crusher and collect the $1000.00.
2. You can fix the car if it fails several times, IF, you choose to do so.
3. To save the next owner some grief, come on the forum and ask for help.
4. DO NOT turn in the title and Tags before you at least make the forum members aware of the vehicle and the problems.
5. There may be someone on the forum like 48hp or myself that would take a chance on the car to save it from the crusher.

Yepper!
My Euro 500sec has the 2.24 also. At 60 MPH is turning 1800 RPM. Not bad off the line(no breaking loose 235/50/16's) but hell on wheels between 40 and...and....and...anything twice the speed limit on a given road here in So CA.

Mariah (560 SEC)with the 2.47 and 225/50/15's will burn the tires off at a light, Chirp through. and still do the TTSL thing if i choose to let her horses out. Surprisingly, the the RPM's are only 2000 RPM 's at 60 MPH. This car's speedo is dead on at 80 MPH with the GPS.
Blue Bird's is about 4 mph slow at 80 MPH according to the GPS.

I called the brother of the PO of the Blue Bird. He was very happy that his brother's car had been saved from the crusher. His comment "He LOVED that car for 20 years". Close as I'll ever get to the PO as he passed on in 2005.
I could tell he loved the car as it has all the records from importation into the country in 1988.

I LOVE these stories!

48hp,
Great find, Great story, Maybe you can talk to the PO as well. I'm sure she'd love to know that her "Baby" was being taken care of.

Roland500SEl,
Wonderful story. I love doing the research on these cars.
