Hi.

I bought a 2000 model A160 classic second hand. I just found out that the engine is running hot when driving in town. It just don't want to idle when hot. After investigating I found that the radiator fan is not running. I suspect it might be the sensor that switch the fan on. I don't know where its allocated or is there maybe a relay that may cause the problem.

Regards.

Oil OK that's good...
You didn't mention, but hopefully the cooling liquid is also OK? ;-)

So get a grip on the temperature issue, it's most important for the good health of that motor.

I would check the fuses before anything else, than the fan itself. Feed some 12V directly to the fan. Just to make sure it run properly.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice. The water is ok. but due to the fan not running it boils out when driving. I haven't checked the fuses but will do this weekend. I have checked the plug that connect to the electrical box in front of the radiator as you explained in the manual and the wire do have the required voltage. I will check this weekend and contact you again.

I would like to thank you for your assistance,

Regards.

Hi Patrick OReilly
Let's try to follow by steps:

Fuses - OK
Fan - OK (feed 12V worked) perfect
So next I would check the fan switch and respective wire circuit. Since you feed the fan directly and it works, the problem is most probably in that switch or the wires leading to the fan.
Beware the fan switch is relatively cheap. If I where you probably would change it without a second taught.
Good luck

PS: You wrote "...boils out when driving..." is it in stop go traffic?
when driving on open road normally should not boil, the air flow should keep it cool enough.
If so the thermostat should also be checked/changed. But one step at a time... :)
