Have you ever noticed the difference between the 99 and 00 models. All the doors seem to be heavier. If you shut the door on a 99 CLK and door on a 2000 CLK there is a huge difference. Why?????????? The 99 even rides better with very little road noise.

How many cars did you test this theory on?

Too bad the '99 doesn't have color coded rocker panels or LED signal lights in the mirrors.

All of them!!! I have an 2000 S500 its the same thing. Not as heavy and solid as my 99 CL 500 was. I think 99 was the last year Mercedes made a heavy quite car. Just my opinion!!!!

The 1999 CLK430 coupe weighs 3426, the 2000 and 2001 weigh 3323, and the 2002 weighs 3365. I always thought the difference was equipment. The 1999 has different fenders, gauge cluster, seats, and mirrors. The 2001 and 2002 have different FI (ME 2.8 versus the 2.0).

It's hard to imagine the 100 pounds is centered around the doors, but I suppose anything is possible. Anyone have a quarter mile trap speed for their stock 2001? The 1999 models regularly did 99.5 to 100 MPH passes, while a certain 2002 that I know of ran a 102.5 MPH pass in SacTown (OK, it was a 102.491, and some people claim I cheat, but that's close enough to call it 102.5, right? :D). With a 42 pound advantage over the 2002, the '01 should be a tad quicker. The 2001 does have a full sized spare, right?
