Contemplating to purchase a 99 SLK 230 with 61,000 miles. No service records available. All seems to work well including A/C, no visible smoke upon engine start, trans shifts properly, etc. ALthough, I own 560 SEL, 300E, I am not familiar with SLK peculiarities, what should I expect a car with this mileage?

Thanks

I agree that there is nothing in particular to look at. I would get a pre-purchase check done at the dealer or another shop that you trust. For me in the past, it was money well spent.

16,990. The car drives real solid, some blemishes on the front hood, otherwise very straight, with new tires. Again, not familiar with 4 cylinder kompressor engines, should I be aware of potential maintenance/problems at this mileage or behond.

Porgal, dont be concerned about all the posts in the forum too much - just make sure you service the auto (if needed) and change the oil frequently to ensure a trouble free wallet

Bazzles stickies will clue you in to a lot --- Hope you go ahead - you'll love it !

Fair price. The engine is generally not a major problem. Instead, the issues with these cars is generally annoying things like microswitches that control the top open/close function, and the brake light bulb sockets which tend to corrode.

Overall, however, these cars are better than the newer Mercedes models which have weird electronic lglitches (like my C320...)

Well, my purchase has been completed on a 99 SLK 230 with 6,100 original miles.
It is silver with grey/white interior. The car looks absolutely flawless in and out.

Enjoy your new purchase! I bought an '01 with 73,000 miles on it about 4 months ago. I've been enjoying it ever since, great car! Just a couple of snafus - make sure those four "drains" are clear so that water runs down them and not into the trunk or passenger compartment. They're located at the top of the trunk area near the hinge and top of the hood also near the hinge. A few minutes of inspection and cleaning can save lots of electronic$ later.

Congratulations! :)

I am taking delivery on my first SLK (2001 - 230) tomorrow. I have had a couple of Miatas over the years, but am looking forward to a bit more comfort. Actually, after two extensive test drives - a LOT more comfort.

True, I paid $10,000 on May 2005 for my 1999 Sport with 100K miles. Mine was a but rough too, but for the price, I could not go wrong!
