Just bought a 99 SLK 230, what a fun car! But in the last couple of weeks I've been having problems with the engine dying. When running the car with lights, radio, heater, defroster on, the engine dies after about 10-15 miles. Sometimes this happens with just the lights on. Once the car sits for 20-30 minutes, it starts right back up.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea what might cause this?

When you say dying do you mean that lights and electrical go dim and stop working, engine dies and will not crank?? If so then you might check out the battery...especially if it the original. Hope this helps.[:I]

No, in fact when the engine dies, the dash lights up like a Christmas tree, the running lights presumably are still on, the radio still plays, etc. When the engine died, I lost power steering and brakes. Little scary. After pulling over, when trying to re-start, the dash lights come on but there is no juice to the ignition, like totally dead. But after sitting about 20-30 minutes, the car starts right back up.
