After I replaced my washer reservoir, the flow was poor due to plastic fragments (of the old washer pump nozzle) lodged in the check valve. I followed these instructions but was defeated at the "remove wiper arms" step.

It is possible to remove the check valve without removing the wiper arms. Raise the hood to the vertical service position so you have room to remove the rubber seal. Each of the 5 metal clips has 2 spurs on the front edge, so pull the rubber seal forward and down to unsnag it before pulling up. After undoing the plastic 10 mm nuts and removing the leftmost 2 clips, you can lift up the front edge of the grille just enough to get the check valve out.
