I HAVE A 98 S420 WITH 128,000 MILES. RECENTLY, MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AND DESCRIBED A LIMP HOME SITUATION WITH THE TRANSMISSION WHEN FIRST DRIVING THE CAR IN THE MORNING. WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK, DROVE THE CAR NOTHING, EXCEPT, NOT ABLE TO MANUALLY DOWN SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO 3RD. SELECTOR WILL NOT MOVE DOWN. NOTHING FOREIGN APPEARS TO BE BINDING THE SELECTOR FROM ABOVE. WOULD IT BE A LINKAGE ISSUE?? ANY IDEAS???????

Try posting this on the W140 forum; that is how MB designates your car. Chances are good that other actual owners have experienced something like this. Scroll down and look under the sedans sub-heading. Good luck!
