My car has been running rough, and shows a couple of codes for cylinders running lean. After moving coils around, and checking spark plugs, I decided to replace all the vacuum lines. I found PelicanParts had the best selection of vacuum hoses. I purchased everything that they listed for the 98 S420.

I replaced all the hoses. It looks to me like what I received replaces all what would be the breather hoses on a newer Mercedes? All my hoses were as hard as rock. I have hoses left over that don't appear to fit my car. But, I also have a connector that I did not receive a replacement part for. I've attached a picture. Does anyone know what this part does and where I can get a replacement Y and the little blue cylinder connector? I bought a length of the vacuum tubing. So I am OK for the straight parts. For perspective, this is at the back of the engine, between the engine and firewall on the passenger side.

You can get a generic Y or T from the nearest parts store. Look into the Dormain section.
The "blue cylinder" is a vacuum check-valve.

MB uses these in various places and my guess (I don't have a V8) is that it is a part of the emissions control.
On my V12, this exact set up is used on the EGR switcherover solenoids.

Thanks so much for the help. I didn't realize you could get stuff like that at a auto parts store.

If I'm not completely mistaken, this Y connection is to feed the AC system with vacuum to drive the vents. One of the feeds, the normal one, is to take it from the engine intake (as seen). The other is fed from the PSE pump, in cases where the engine is not running.
