Glow plug light started to flash so I had the mechanic change out the glow plugs and he changed out the fuel filter at the same time. Car has 87000 miles on it. Now on startup it idles rough and smokes, (never did this before) If I push down on the pedal and idle it up to 1500rpm it will smooth out, then runs fine. Any suggestions?

If it misfires when cold, one or more glowplugs are not heating up.

Check the fuses in your glow plug relay, there are 6, very obvious metallic strips that run vertically. If any of them have melted, then I'd say thats the cause of your problem.

The glow plug relay, if similar to mine, will be on the right side of the engine bay, near the windscreen washer bottle. A black box with a large electrical connector on it.

I know where the relay is, but are the fuses inside of it. All I see is two connectors going into it, and I removed both of them but not all I see is the connector pins. Since this wasn't doing this prior is it possible one of the plugs are bad, I told them to install Bosch? Thanks so far do I open up the relay or?

Take it back to the person who installed the glow plugs. Tell them your problem. Let them diagnose it. Is sounds like one or more glow plugs are not working. It could be the new plugs or the wires to the plugs or the plug at the relay or the relay...

Crack the unit open. Inside you'll find 6 blade fuses, 3 on one side, 3 on the other.

If any fuses look like the attached picture, then thats why those plugs aren't working.
