I'm back at it with my R129.

Car is running great, but when i started today, the CEL came on instantly. Scanned the modules and no codes at all.

This is the second time this has happen.

If i disconnect the battery, the battery goes away and wont come back for a couple of days. Comes on when you first start it though.

Just curious, what tool did you use to "scan modules" on 95 SL500?

Generally speaking, CEL and no codes means, wrong tool for scanning the codes. But, I'm not sure what the options are on 95 R129.
A 95 model year shouldn't have obd2 since that's 1996 models onward for cars in america, so wouldn't he definitley need to scan using star and the 38 pin in the engine bay?

I "created" the led scanner, the 95 is analog.

What I meant by scan, is that I made an led scanner since it's a 38 pin analog, and scanned all the modules.

Mine has the 38pin under hood, but it's not obd2. And it's analog.

According to page 18 of this manual (Engines 104, 119, 120 Model Years 1992-1995) LH SMFI - Digital.

Anyway, if you have 38-Pin Diagnostic Connector, I would think Star system with HHT-WIN should be able to read something on your car. But my experience only goes back to 1997 M104 with Star Diagnostic. I have not tested any model prior to 97.

Diagnose with STAR and 38 pin port. Check for engine codes and transmission codes. If nothing and your mileage is high maybe go ahead and replace maf. While you’re at it reset/clear if possible

All R129's have the proprietory 38pin port under the bonnet.
Post 95/96 models may have the 16pin OBD2 under the steering rack.

No, not all R129's have 38-pin diagnostic connector.
Oh okay.. got it.

So there are some R129's produced that would not connect to the Star Diagnostic System?
Is this article correct?

Hi there, thank you for trying to help and advise.
This video is old, and no it was not a loose gas cap. It was a faulty vacuum hose.

Thank you for your concern
Oh alright. I noticed the flashing fuel light so I assumed loose gas cap.

glad you solved your problem. It would suck to have an engine light on and not be able to fully enjoy that 5.4L beast

The early models 90, 91, 92… only had 16-pin connector for blink code readers.

Now, I have cables that would (in theory) connect this to SDS but I never tried that so I don't know how that would work.
