I brought my SL500 to a reputable interior shop to have my original top replaced. They installed a new GAHH top in black like the original. The timeline is important. I brought it in in May, 2 weeks later (it didn't take that long but they were busy) I picked up the SL and it looked great. I was told not to lower it for a few weeks and that wasn't a problem. The first time I did was late June.

After a few ups and downs I began to notice creases in the side windows. That made me concerned. I spoke to GAHH and Jack told me about how one of the top bows on the early SLs sat on the folded top and could cause these marks. He said '95 and newer top bows were redesigned to eliminate this issue. The fix is the installation of these "bow blocks". I shared pictures of the bow blocks with GAHH and he thinks they are not in the right spot. My interior shop is standing behind their work and will move the blocks but does anyone know where exactly???

I think the issue is window quality I have three SL's and the last top I had that did not do this was 4 years ago. The last two cars have this side window issue, one car two years ago and the newest GAHH top I had put on my 98 is 4 months old and has the creases. All my tops are GAHH I think the side windows are too stiff.

I don't have those Bow Blocks on my 91! What's the purpose of those things?

If I remember correctly, the creases come from the rear window lying flat on the floor when retracted. The Bow Blocks (or towels or pool noodles) prevent the window from flattening on the floor. The window is allowed to bend down into the space between the block and the floor. instead of being pressed flat.

I believe, when the top retracts, the OP wants those blocks to align under the cloth material between the windows.
